Manufacturers switch gears to make medical supplies

Businesses across multiple sectors have adapted their operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 20 innovative manufacturers have pivoted away from what they normally produce to focus on essential goods such as PPE, medical supplies, and sanitizer. Even though it takes time and a monumental effort to adapt their lines, these companies are working collaboratively and stepping up for our communities. Click here to watch the video to learn more.

TreborRX Corp. is a Canadian company with a new production facility located in Collingwood. TreborRX is committed to providing healthcare, frontline and essential workers with innovative, new patented PPE technology during COVID-19 and beyond.

  • Industrial Filter Manufacturing in Penetanguishene makes specialty and custom liquid filtration bags and has expanded its production to include masks.  The team adapted quickly to help fill the need for more medical supplies amid the pandemic. 
  • Heretic Spirits is a Collingwood based company famous for their Heretic Gin #1 and Heretic Vodka #1. Over the past few months, they switched over their whiskey stills to produce hand sanitizer for front line workers and businesses.
  • Molded Precision Components is a precision injection moulding facility located in Oro-Medonte, offering full-service engineering, product development and volume manufacturing capability. With a flexible approach, they continue to serve their existing automotive partners, having also redeployed resources to focus on medical-driven needs, including a collaboration for supply of 25 million face shields.
  • Beatties Distillers is a company run by a 5th generation Canadian farming family in Alliston. They produce some of the finest potato vodka in the world. Beatties answered the call to combat COVID-19 by producing hand sanitizer.

  • Sensor Technology Inc. in Collingwood is a leading designer and manufacturer of piezoelectric ceramic solutions, custom acoustic transducers and custom hydrophones — with customers ranging from major oil and gas exploration firms to navies around the world.
  • Raytheon ELCAN in Midland manufactures high‐precision optical systems for the most demanding challenges in the world.
  • DECAST Ltd. in Essa Township is leading the Canadian Infrastructure market, including water transmission, bridges, storm and sanitary, tunneling and engineered precast products from their 510,000 sq. feet precast concrete manufacturing facility situated on 125 acres.

  • MacLean Engineering in Collingwood has been manufacturing mobile equipment for mining, municipal and industrial customers for almost 50 years. This Southern Georgian Bay team is comprised 400+ employees working in a various positions, including marketing, engineering, programming, welding, CNC machining, mechanical design, and more.
  • Honda of Canada Mfg. employs 4,200 hardworking associates and produce 400,000 vehicles and 260,000 engines annually. The plant operates 3 facilities across almost 900 acres providing ample opportunities. A new vehicle comes off the line almost every 60 seconds and each associate plays an integral role in making that happen.
  • AGNORA fabricates the largest architectural glass in North America. Their 225,000-square-foot production facility in Collingwood caters to a variety of cultural, residential, commercial and retail projects. It’s the kind of glass you see in stores like Apple, Dolce & Gabbana and major buildings such as airport control towers.   
  • Tempo Plastics is nationally recognized as an award-winning, industry leader in custom flexible packaging. Their impressive 100,000-square-foot facility located in Innisfil operates 24 hours a day and manufactures more than one million packages daily for more than 200 brands.
  • Keebee Play in Midland has been designing and manufacturing one-of-a-kind play products for commercial and institutional environments for 10+ years. The firm recently developed a new technological activity to help engage people living with dementia through a division of their business called Ambient Activity.
  • Baxter products made right here in Alliston will be found on nearly every floor, in almost every hospital across Canada.  Their impressive 180,000 square foot manufacturing facility is the only large scale manufacturing plant producing life-sustaining intravenous and dialysis solutions in Canada.

Napoleon is North America’s largest privately owned manufacturer of quality wood and gas fireplaces, gourmet gas and charcoal grills, outdoor living products and heating & cooling equipment is located in Oro-Medonte. Their team of more than nine hundred designers, innovators, and team players are using the latest manufacturing technologies and are committed to creating high quality products. They aim to double their size in the next 5 years – and you could join them.

Kumi Canada Corporation (KCC) is located in Bradford West Gwillimbury, Kumi opened its doors in 1998 and supplies high quality interior and exterior parts for the automotive industry. Each month, Kumi supplies hundreds of thousands of parts to their Simcoe County neighbor and leading car manufacturer, Honda of Canada Mfg.

Creemore Springs Brewery opened its doors on August 15th, 1987 in Clearview Township. Their current facility has the full capacity to brew 130,000hL. A variety of different departments work together to make this happen. Creemore employs a team of over 100 folks, many of whom are second generation family members.  Many also have a strong agricultural, family and community mindset.
