An insider look with employees Kemmy, Kunal and Latika.

Baytech Plastics Inc. is a North American leader in plastic components and assemblies for diverse global markets in water filtration, entertainment, business machines, automotive, and more. From engineering and design to finishing and assembly, Baytech is a contract manufacturer and supplier of value-added injection moulded components and assemblies.

In business for more than 70 years in Midland, the company employs approximately 250 people from surrounding communities. We had the opportunity to speak with three Baytech Plastics staff, who shared their perspectives on working and living in North Simcoe:

Latika Sharma, Quality Inspector, started at Baytech Plastics in 2019 after coming to Canada from India in 2017. Having only lived in cities previously, Latika wanted “to live in a small, peaceful town. Midland hosts a number of festivals and events around its beautiful downtown and waterfront. From beautiful beaches to museums and everything in between, this is a place that can truly cater to everyone.”

Speaking about her role at Baytech, Latika commented, “Baytech Plastics uses an Injection Moulding technique for manufacturing of parts, using robots and automation, which is one of the reasons I wanted to work here – there’s just so much to learn around methods of production and innovation.”

“As a Quality Inspector, I inspect, analyze, monitor and ensure the quality of incoming and outgoing raw material and finished products.  I read blueprints, run tests, keep records, and spend a lot of time on the production floor. At Baytech we really do work as a team, helping each other in any way possible to achieve identified goals and take the company to new heights.”

Latika completed a Bachelor of Electronics and Communication Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration degree in India. After coming to Canada, she completed a Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from the University of Windsor.

Like Latika, Kemmy Desiganandhan grew up in India where he pursued a degree in engineering.

“When I moved to Canada, I completed a Post-Graduate diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management to move into a purchasing career,” says Kemmy. Now, I’m a Technical Buyer at Baytech Plastics. I purchase the components needed to assemble the complete product – from the smallest parts to the largest pieces on the assembly line.”

“There are always new projects and adaptations to be made to meet changing market demand. I look forward to the variety in my work and appreciate the strong infrastructure in place at Baytech to pivot successfully.”

“I chose North Simcoe because it has a better quality of life compared to the bustling cities in the GTA. I like to explore and enjoy nature and there are so many unique places to visit in the area” said Desiganandhan.

Kunal Mehra, Lead Process Technician, agrees: “I like being away from the rush of the city, where there’s still access to amenities but a real community feeling”

The process of products transforming from raw to finished goods has always been intriguing to Kunal. He was interested in manufacturing from a young age and feels that he has found a good career fit at Baytech.

“As a lead technician, I am responsible for setting up new tooling, creating master setups, and optimizing processes to run a cost-effective product, keeping a close eye on cycle times and scrap rates. Baytech has a variety of different molds and materials, and under one roof,” said Kunal.

Baytech Plastics hopes to attract more people New to Canada to join their growing team.
